LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN + PLANNING

- » BEAUX ARTS SHORELINE RESTORATION, BEAUX ARTS, WA
- Barker Landscape Architects was hired to develop a site plan for shoreline restoration along Lake Washington in Beaux Arts between I-90 to SR 520. The draft site plan will integrate the direct shoreline with the adjoining grass areas and adjacent wooded areas (including storm water runoff) as an integrated habitat. Project planning was funded by a 2009 KCD grant to The Western Academy of Beaux. The final site plan with detailed section drawings will be completed by August 2010.
The shoreline is 1100 feet with about one-third containing boat docks and swim docks; these current uses will be maintained. There is rock armoring along most of the shoreline, with some sections back from the waters edge. The beach is narrow and consists of coarse gravels with some finer sands. The community seeks to restore natural shoreline conditions, in combinations with retaining current uses, and improve the beach composition and slope. Certain sections of the rock armoring may be able to be stepped back.
