- In 2013 the Broadview-Thomson PTA applied for funding from the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Small and Simple Grant program, with the intention of reimagining the school playground as a more inviting place place for children, staff, and families. The Steering Committee team envisioned the outdoor space as one with warmer, softer surfaces, strong connections to adjacent Bitter Lake, and enrichment opportunities for students centered around the environment. With funding secured, the PTA hired Barker Landscape Architects for community outreach and development of this plan. Barker Landscape Architects provided community outreach for the imagining of a playground improvement master plan and has now been hired for the first phase of design development and construction documents.
