  • » MARRA-DESIMONE PARK PHASE II, SEATTLE, WA
  • Barker Landscape Architects has been hired by Seattle Parks Department for the development of the second phase of Marra-Desimone Park. The west half of the Marra-Desimone Park site was historically operated as Marra Farm, a local farm which supplied fresh produce to Seattle farmers' Pike Place market in the mid-20th century. The site continues to be used for agricultural purposes today by current immigrant communities. Park improvements aim to expand and improve the western agricultural area of the park while integrating active and passive recreational areas to the east. Improvements may include natural play, walking paths, picnicking areas, a central green, orchards, shelters, education facilities, performance and market space. Park improvements were initiated by the completion of a 2008 master plan. Second phase improvements will be guided by current community and agency needs.
