- The identity of the City of Mukilteo is firmly rooted in Lighthouse Park. It’s value as a gathering space spans many centuries and includes the historic signing of the Point Elliot Treaty. The design merges natural, cultural, and historic themes together and follows a general strategy of “floating” new improvements over sensitive archaeological areas. Sustainable site features are prominent and were implemented throughout the park to mitigate the impact of vehicles, stormwater, and increased public usage. L.I.D. elements embrace the lighthouse grounds in such a manner that make it contiguous with the surrounding natural beaches and shoreline. The transformation of this park has led to collaborations with artists from local tribes, NOAA, a new venue for the farmer’s market, a new performance band shell, a pedestrian friendly streetscape or “woonerf” to expand the park’s ability to host its annual lighthouse festival, as well as an ethnobotanic garden to greet visitors to the historic lighthouse.
