- » SUNSET HILL COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION RAIN GARDEN, SEATTLE, WA
- In 2010 Barker Landscape Architects volunteered to design and help with installation of a rain garden at the Sunset Hill Community Association (SHCA) in Seattle. The site serves as a demonstration garden for Seattle Public Utility’s RainWise Program. SHCA worked with SPU to disconnect two downspouts from the city’s stormwater pipes, replacing them with a couple of two-hundred gallon cisterns. The cisterns gather water from the building, and slowly direct it into the rain garden, design by Barker Landscape Architects. Seattle Public Utilities and SHCA have been monitoring the system, and it’s been working perfectly, even during our La Nina deluges.
